"SPIRIT" by BEYONCE (LION KING SOUNDTRACK)

The Lion King is out now.

« Spirit » the main title of the soundtrack transports us in this updated classic whose unabashed Afrocentrism has already seduced us.

Fashion is at the core of this ode to Africa. Beside the African inspired choreographies and the breathtaking landscapes reminding the viewer of the beauty of the continent, the selection of costumes pays homage to Pan-Africanism and to the diaspora.

Just as the producers of Black Panther, Beyoncé, the executive producer of the soundtrack, insisted on working hand in hand with African creatives such as Sarah Diouf, founder of « Tongoro Studio, » whose black and white « Bamako » suit is in sharp contrast with the chromatic outburst around.

Zerina Akers, who worked with Beyoncé for the Global Citizen Festival, assisted Beyoncé in styling herself and her dancers.

Other pieces caught our attention.

The mauve and ocher frock coat and its latex bustier are Valentino creations (SS 19).

Brazilian designer Alex Navarro of Maison Alexandrine teamed up with the New-York based creator Laurel De Witt to craft the stunning cowrie dress, a reference to Yemoja, a Yoruba orisha and water deity.

The chartreuse knit dress with its feather adornments is a piece made by the Canadian designer Mark Fast.

The night blue jumpsuit, whose fringes dance to the beat of inaudible tom-toms is another design by Laurel De Witt.

Blue Ivy, Beyoncé’s daughter, made a noticed cameo, proving that charisma undoubtedly runs in the blood.

We simply cannot wait!
